Short Bio

Markelle Grabo retells the fairy tales that frustrate her, which, based on that guideline, could include nearly all of them. Her latest book, The Redwood Bargain, is a gothic fantasy inspired by the Brothers Grimm and Downton Abbey. Her first novel, the award-winning Call Forth a Fox, is a cozy fantasy retelling of “Snow White and Rose Red.” Both YA novels are steeped in woodsy atmosphere and sapphic yearning. Markelle earned her MFA from Hamline University and lives in the Greater Chicago Area with her husband and two very fluffy cats.

Markelle Grabo retells the fairy tales that frustrate her, which, based on that guideline, could include nearly all of them. Her latest book, The Redwood Bargain, is a gothic fantasy inspired by the Brothers Grimm and Downton Abbey. Her first novel, Call Forth a Fox, is a cozy fantasy retelling of “Snow White and Rose Red.” The novel was awarded a CBC Teacher Favorites designation, received a starred review from Shelf Awareness, and was selected for the ALA Rainbow Book List. Both YA novels are steeped in woodsy atmosphere and sapphic yearning.

Markelle earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Loyola University Chicago and her master’s degree in creative writing for children and young adults from Hamline University. When not writing, she enjoys hiking, food adventures, and going to the movies. Whatever she’s doing, she’s usually listening to an audiobook or a podcast at the same time. Raised in Wisconsin, Markelle now lives in the Greater Chicago Area with her husband and two very fluffy cats.
